Retratar es acercarse, es conocer el mundo de otras personas en breves tentativas de captar algo. Cualquier cosa, desde que sea algo sincero. Aprendí que la fotografía de retrato habla sobre los vínculos, es sobre compartir, sobre aprender con las historias ajenas. Pero, ¿qué pasa cuando eliminamos este elemento del vínculo? ¿Cuando no hay intención de entender quien es la persona del otro lado? Desde la Distancia es un proyecto donde parto de la premisa de no conocer las personas que retrato ni dejar que ellas me conozcan. Me queda la pregunta entonces: ¿Existe la posibilidad del vínculo aún desde la distancia? ¿Podemos decir que estas fotos son  retratos o es necesario que haya algo más? Retratar... ¿qué sería realmente?

To portray is to get closer, it is to know the world of other people in those brief attempts to capture something. Anything, as long as it's something sincere. I learned that portrait photography talks about ties, it is about sharing, about learning with other people's stories. But what happens when we remove this element from the pocture? When there is no intention of understanding who the person on the other side is? Desde la Distancia (From a Distance, in spanish) is a project where I have the intention of not knowing the people I portray or letting them know me. I am left with a question then: Is there a possibility of a connection even with this distance? Can we say that these photos are portraits or there is the need for them to be something else? To portray ... what this it really about?
